KATE SHELA, CO-FOUNDER OF THE 360 EMERGENCE

Kate Shela (along with Amber Ryan) is a co-founder of The 360 Emergence, a profoundly healing practice of the physical embodiment of life through guided free-form dance. Their work together over two decades has created a community of refuge and healing for people around the world.

When Covid arrived, they transitioned their offerings online. It was a gracious thread that kept people moving through isolation in their homes, but the truth is there is nothing quite like the power of the magic that happens when people come together to dance.

In January 2022. as the world cautiously began to open up again, they hosted their first in person workshop in years. I had the privilege of documenting Kate's very first steps back onto the dance floor after the years of physical isolation during which the whole world changed and she lost her beloved father.

The journey to inhabiting one's own body can sometimes feel a million miles long, even with a lifetime of practice. The best way in is with permission, patience and tenderness.
