This is a 2000-year-old classical dance form from India that uses the elements of emotion, melody and rhythm to tell complex narratives, and was originally created to communicate the stories of Hindu mythology to the masses. Trained by guru G.V. Ramani in Mumbai from the age of 6, completed my Arangetram graduation at 11, and have been a soloist ever since. When I am dancing Bharatanatyam, I feel as though I am tapped into an ancient root system, connecting earth and spirit through my body as a channel.
